Client: KDocs

Project objectives: A logo and visual language needed to be established as well as various printed, display and signage materials to be created for a new annual Documentary film festival led by various members of the KPU community.

KDocs is KPU’s very own Documentary Film Festival, led by learners and educators from all of KPU’s communities. KDcocs contributes to KPU’s engagement of various communities, through documentary screenings and community dialogue provoking critical thinking and understanding about ourselves, our communities, and our world. Working in partnership with the Vancouver International Film Centre + Vancity Theatre, KDocs showcases award-winning documentary films, keynote speakers, filmmakers, panelists, exhibitors, and community members. Participants engage in lively discussion, debate, and dialogue as they investigate today’s most pressing global issues.

Design solution: Using our KPU red, We created a logo that was reflective of the old projection style. The logo dually represents the documentary and projection based film style as well as visually portrays KDOCS as the vehicle to create awareness on various controversial issues, bringing to light current pressing, controversial and socially based subjects.

This old film style look was applied to the various promotional materials by layering the edges of a film strip over top of each other. This was used to as a graphic style for KDocs and was always somehow incorporated on all of the printed and web materials.

Deliverables: Logo, festival program, community outreach booklet, event banners and signage,  tickets, name tags, print and online advertisements.
